What is Counselling?

There are times in most of our lives when we experience distressing events and feelings which seem to have no solution or end in sight. Sometimes we know that our feelings are due to particular circumstances such as stress, anxiety, bullying, relationship problems, bereavement, anger management and many other concerns. At other times we may have no idea what is making us feel the way we do, all we know is that our lives have become uncomfortable, difficult or intolerable. We may have family or friends to talk to, but may feel they are too close to our problems. Whatever your reason maybe for seeking counselling, many people find being able to talk things through without being rushed or judged is helpful. Counselling can help people to clarify their thoughts and feelings so they arrive at their own decision, or even make major changes in their lives.

Counselling Aim

We may have family and friends to talk to, but may feel they are too close to our problems. Whatever your reason maybe for seeking counselling, many people find it helpful being able to talk things through without being rushed or judged. I will work with you to understand what you are experiencing and help you to find your own answers and ways to overcome your difficulties. You can have as many or as few sessions as you feel you need. Counselling is available for stress, anxiety, bullying, relationship problems, bereavement, anger management and many other concerns.

My Approach

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and I offer confidential counselling for many issues and work with adults, young people, couples and small groups. My counselling approach is Person-Centred. This is based on the belief that people can heal in a favourable environment, provided through a supportive therapeutic relationship. My aim is to help you explore your concerns and find ways forward that are right for you. As a counsellor, I will facilitate and support you in a safe and confidential environment to explore the issues you choose to talk about, without being rushed or feeling judged. I will work with you to understand what you are experiencing and help you to find your own answers and ways to overcome your difficulties. I attend regular clinical supervision sessions to ensure my work is of the highest standard and I work in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and an accredited member of the National Counselling Society.
